i'm not a big user of effects, but i got a couple particular sounds in my head i wanted to hear and record, and i had no idea of how to create them. it turns out the EHX blurst makes those sounds, sometimes with an expression pedal. my husband asked what second gift i wanted, and i told him the blurst. it's on it's way - i ordered an inexpensive expression pedal - and on june 23rd, i'll be blursting like mad the demo that made me go "hey, that's it!"
Argh. No sine wave on the LFO. I'll pass. (I hate those "edges" that triangle waves put into the sound.)
LFO? i'm sure that many people knowledgeable about this stuff would feel the same as you do, but it seems to make the exact sounds i want, and i really want to avoid a learning curve. we have a motu M4 coming later this month, and between that and picking and learning to use a DAW, i'll have enough learning curve to deal with.
I'm a pedal slut .. so, yeah. I dig that. I wouldn't use it all that much, but knowing I could would be reason enough. Recently I bought a EH Canyon Delay and I have really taken to the creative avenues it's opened ( admittedly mostly on guitar but the bass has been a great deal of fun too ). The video below, besides being a little slice of silly heaven, shows off what it's about. Happy B day to you!
Shimmer on bass was pretty killer. Turning the bass into an organ is kinda addicting. Where it got fun was adding in a few other pedals. The canyon, with my bass chorus deluxe ( only chorus on ) and my wrenn and cuff 47 73 netted some very usable sounds that I could absolutely see being in a song.
"LFO" means "Low Frequency Oscialltor" - it's the control signal that makes it "swoosh" - they have 3 choices, 2 sawtooth and one triangular, no nice smooth sine wave that I like. Might make less difference on a filter-based unit rather than a chorus / phase / delay unit, but it would still bug me - I'm OCD about that "corner" sound. At least it wouldn't wildly pitch-bend like on a chorus or phase.
Congratulations for your pedal and happy birthday! I received a pedals for my wedding gift last weekend.
Happy birthday! I had a Blurst for a bit last year. It was pretty neat, especially with an expression pedal and some fuzz thrown in, oh boy!
I literally opened this thread to make that exact pun but looks like you were quicker at the draw! Happy birthday to the OP
