Hey, everyone. I've had my agave blue MIM jazz for awhile now... about 5 years. I've decided that it's time to do some modding/upgrading to it! First and foremost (you guys are going to kill me), i'm gonna get it set-up. Yes.. in the 5 years of me owning this bass, through the cold and the humidity and everything, i've not had it set-up once. That's first on my list of things to do. On to the actual modding. I want to put in a BadAss II bridge and some Fender Custom Shop 60's jazz pickups. I also plan on putting the red tortoise pickguard from Allparts.com on it, and adding a metal pickup cover to the neck pickup. Last but not least, I want to rip out my DiMarzio strap-locks (because i'm an idiot and superglued one of the holes) and put in regular strap pegs. In total, it's not gonna be more than 300 dollars, and i'm really excited. My bass is gonna sound great =) Can anyone show me some pictures of any blue basses with red/reg tort pickguards? Thanks! -Andy
string mutes. S-1 switch (maybe not in this pic..) Rotosound Flats bridge pickup cover Hipshot d-tuner warmoth bound and blocked maple neck. nickel nut. heres the pic with the s-1 installed and bridge cover:
So far new paint and a new pearloid pickguard. Got a Fender Japan P Pickup coming, its from a bunch of different parts and pieces.. Neck Squier Standard Series Jazz Bass Body Fernandes Lawsuit Pbass.. Nice cause all Fender parts fit LOL Hardware ???? Who knows pieces and parts from the junk drawer
Here's mine Squier VM Jazz w/ Audere pre, pick up cover. Current ly strung ADGC (Sounds and plays better than any USA I have ever played) I have a Hipshot de-tuner on the way, when it gets here i'll restring it EADG: View attachment 96657
Here's mine. Have to warn you, modding can get addictive. I was content with my MIM Jazz for about 4 years and then one day I got sick of the Midnight Blue and it all changed from there... Replaced the body with a Warmoth walnut. Badass Bridge Dimarzio Pups Audere onboard preamp Tort Pickguard At some point I think I'll change the tuners. They're starting to get a little unstable. Who knows maybe the neck will have to get swapped too.
Thanks for the compliment, andy. I have a lot of pride in my bass. It may not be luthier built (someday ) but it's exactly what I'm looking for right now.
can you change the bridge first? that way u can hear any tone changes, good or bad. if u switch pickups and bridge at the same time, you will be less able to judge what difference each one makes. the badass has more 'mass' but the fender is more rigidly coupled to the wood. i will guess the badass gives longer sustain, but the original clearer tone. maybe you could post your findings? johnny a
I'm not trying to "kill you" or anything, but don't waste your money on a pro set up and then swap out the bridge - that's a waste. You should get the new bridge first, or better yet, let the tech install the new bridge and do the set up at the same time. My $.02
