    Hi folks,

A while back I got the idea(bright or not I don't know) to try and find a band or group of folks to jam with. I think I'm ready to start playing with folks in a jam setting, not gigs just informal stuff.

So I posted the following ad on CL and got a few responses, but nothing ever panned out.

My question to you guys is, did I go about this the wrong way? Thanks in advance for any help you can lend.

    The ad:

Wannabe bass player, looking! (Southeast Shelby county)
Yep, you read that right. I'm a wannabe and I freely admit it. Looking for a person or band that doesn't mind teaching someone that's willing to learn and dependable. I've got my stuff together, I just need a guiding hand with the bass. Not a complete beginner, but definitely not far along. I have reliable equipment with the ability to upgrade as I need to. I don't do drugs, or drink heavily, I do smoke, and I have reliable transportation and a working watch (I can tell time and be there on it).

Please contact me through the reply option on this posting.

    Thanks!!

Yeah, that ad doesn't look good to me. Don't call yourself a wannabe. Maybe list how long you have been playing and what music you are into and things like that. Explain that you are looking for people with similar levels of experience to try and make music with. If you are looking for someone to teach you, then you should look in your area for a music teacher. Which is a good idea anyway. It's okay to be humble, but that ad (to me) comes off like you started playing last week. Good luck with the search.

When I was younger and in a city where i didn't know anyone and starting out on guitar, I took a community college non credit evening guitar class and meet lots of people with similar interests.
