David Dyson has a solo album out called 'Soulmates'
that is in the Marcus style of playing! Wayman Tisdale is another practitioner of "Thumb Jazz";)

You've GOTTA check out Alain Caron's CDs if you're not familiar with him already...

In case you're not, he plays incredible thumbstyle, easily the equal of Marcus and maybe better on some tunes. (Teen Town for example.) He's an astounding fretless player.

He's heavily funk oriented but more-funk jazz than smooth jazz-ish as a lot of Marcus' stuff is.

The two Alain Caron CDs that I recommend are: "Play" and (I think...) "Rhythm and Jazz".

I believe his webpage is: www.alaincaron.com

  6. I saw Alain when he was with UZEB back in, oh, 1980 something, and I'll never forget it. Even then, all the band members were MIDI'd up and just blowing the audience away with their utterly ridiculous virtuosity, and their sound. Some people accuse him of his technique being too perfect, but style aside, his talent speaks for itself.
