I got this thing last July and right away I had serious issues.
A HOLE in the side of one of the power tubes.
I took it to the best SVT guy around and well he's so good that he's very busy.
He's been in constant contact with me. There have been severail times when he thought it was done but he wouldn't release it to me untill he was convinced beyond any doubt it was right. Through the process it's been recapped, all new diodes, severail resistors. He even swapped out the power tranny at one time trying to locate a break-up in tone he was hearing only after it was on and cranked for a while. It was finally narrowed down to a weak foil runner on the pwb. He still can't see the defect but the new board took care of it.
He says it's putting out a very healthy 320 watts. He had quit charging me a long time ago and besides the seller picked up the $400 bill anyways. He's offered me one of his SVT's to cover whenever I had anything to do.
I had sold my CL and 810e to pay for this head and cabinet.
If you remember I picked up this straight back cab loaded with CTS speakers, 6 loose Eminence's, a VERY EARLY 1970 6146 SVT with 12 extra NOS GE tubes all for $2000. It was a good deal and that made the wait worth it. You can bet I'm posting picks of the reunited amp this evening.

First thing that popped into my head when I read that title: "Boy, I hope you have a good back brace!"

On a serious note, she indeed is a beaut! :bassist:

You know, it's really not that bad unless you have a back problem. The worst part is the deadlift of the head onto the top of the cab. But leverage and a decent handtruck can get you through everything else.

So Bill, what's the verdict with the 6146's vs the 6550's? Do any ABing yet?

I haven't had a oppertunity to A/B it but it seems to have a very warm and extreamely punchy tone.
As far as hauling it inside, my wife wouldn't understand haveing it sitting in the living room or the front room. I have some jobs coming up next month that will give me the chance to let her rip. I pissed her off enough just haveing it in the garage vibrating the whole house.

OMG This thing sounds perfect. Tone ,definition ,power ,thump ,gobs of head room, so musical sounding. Incrediable. AND it's as light as a feather!
( a whole bunch of em').
    Gas has ended for me.
