no endorsements yet...Are you listening Spector, DR, GK, Line6?
There are only 2 original heavy metal bands…Black Sabbath as the creators, and Judas Priest as the innovators. First coming, second coming…then the rest. Not minimizing any band or their contribution, I like all metal and most of its sub-genres as well as recognize the many icons that have appeared, disappeared, and stayed with us long after death, this is not a “this band is better than that band” statement…just saying…IMHO…heavy metal is Black Sabbath, then its Judas Priest, then its all the rest.

What say you disciples of the watch?

    Rock on.

  2. I listen to both genres:
    Motörhead
    Black Sabbath

most of the Heavy Metal since then is derivative of one of those

If there is a God and a counterpart, I'd say the counterpart created the good bands and God was the one responsible for these guys...

I always felt « I want you » from The Beatles to be the first modern heavy metal song and heavier than any Black Sabbath song I heard though it doesn’t make The Beatles the first heavy metal band!! Haha

They were all known as Heavy Metal back in the day. If you have doubts, look at the cover art for Machine Head by Deep Purple. The slicing and dicing of sub genres came later.
