I was subbing for a top 40/dance/rock band last night at the typical neighborhood bar gig last night and was talking to the sit-in harmonica player/singer. He was telling me he had a band and asked if we were in the studio. I explained that I was a sub but the band might be working on something. He went on to tell me that liked to get his band in the studio 3 hours a week so they'll be ready in case a gig pops up.

    :roflmao:

I guess they're technically inside a rehearsal studio...I've just never heard it used that way. :woot:

  2. This is something only someone who has no idea about sessions would say.

Was this guy American? If so that's really weird. I've never heard that term used before here.

I did hear a British guy once say "in session" meaning a rehearsal. I had to ask what he meant.

But I have never heard "in the studio" used in the US to mean anything other than recording.

Unless he means "dance studio" so the band can work on its choreography... ;)

Yup. An L.A. Latino. He appeared to be in a highly insulated blues circle. He asked for a mambo in G. I've played in salsa bands so I had to ask him to just sing what he wanted. Turns out he wanted a Born in Chicago type groove. I guess blues guys call that a mambo? :bored:

I don't know but I selected the brah version instead of the rapper version to be culturally sensitive.

Good idea. Also, I could have sworn that was Will Ferrell playing bass in your profile picture, but can't be certain. Who is that?

No idea. But I believe he embodies everything a bass player should be. Styles for miles. And look at that porno stache.

Anyway, some people here actually think that's me so don't blow my cover.
