    Hi folks :help:

I've got about $1200 back from the us govmt and I'm looking to buy a bass. I could probably go as high as $1500.

I'm currently playing a Fender lite p/j with fralins and I like it for the weight.

    I'm thinking about:

Laklands 4-94 used, new 44-02, what about the new pickups from lakland.

    Carvin Icon

    MIA fender

    Others ??

    Advice, warnings and experience welcome.

I love this forum and read it all the time but I hope I'm not being redundant about another post that I might have missed. If so just send me there.

    Thanks y'all

A used Mike Lull bass would fall into this price range.

+1 on the Lakland 44-94, or a new Skyline 44-02. IMO Lakland's are fantastic. The MIA Fender's are really cool too. I've never tried a Carvin.

Sounds to me like you've got a great list to choose from.

I just picked up my G&L SB-2 as a replacement (upgrade) for my JP-90 which is similar to your P/J lite. I LOVE the SB-2 and was shocked at the weight (very light) for such a meaty feeling bass. The sound is incredible too! You'd have the familiar pickups that you've already got, but a much more substantial tone. My only complaint with the SB-2 is the absence of a tone knob, but that could be VERY easily remedied.

Go used, get more for your money. Unless you are a die hard collector.

If you really look around you might be able to get a used Sadowsky Metro or Tokyo for that price other wise a used G&L or Lakland you could easily find within that price range.

So far, my wife bought me a Lakland 55-94, paid for half of a Ken Lawrence Brase 5, and OK'd the purchase of a Sadowsky 5-24.

Ah, the joys of married life! (LOL!)

Well, you're definitely in the minority...

  12. My wife bought me a Pedulla Buzz 4, and a Trace Elliot T-Bass.

Last year my wife bought me:

    Tacoma Thunderchief 5-string ABG
    Godin A4 fretless (used)

She also gave her total support to me buying a Lakland DJ5, and this year she was happy I bought a Bongo 5HH.

    Since I'm a stay-at-home dad, and she's the engineer, I'm pretty pleased. :D

Lakland 44-02 new; or the 44-94 if you want a different color/wood scheme. I'm going to be getting a 44-02 with my tax return :).

Something to consider; I had a talk with Dan Lakin about the new Lakland pickups. He said he wasn't sure when they're coming up; around a month from now. He's unsure on the price to replace current barts but was ballparking around $150.
