hi people, i'm a real n00b at basses. I tried one yesterday and the e sting was incredibly loose. I couldn't hear it, even with the amp. Was it just not set up properly or are all e strings that loose?

That would be a terrible set-up. It was tuned correct right?

all the strings were in tune with each other, but it may have been an octave too low. Is that possible? Isn't a bass ment to be only ONE octave below and guitar?

I believe so, but if the other strings were in tune and tight, and the E was in tune with the rest of the strings, there is defenitely something wrong with the set-up.

What bass are we talking about here?

Thats the first time I hear someone complaining about the E string being loose, and not the B :p

Maybe the string was broke? Sounds stupid, but if you are new to bass it could easily be a stupid detail like that.

Take along someone who isn't a bassnoob, and let him judge it.

So it was loose AND you couldn't hear it, or you couldn't hear it?

It might be a dead string or something like that.

sill question, you were playing the E not the B?
B is the top string than E.
