Epicenter near Aceh in Indonesia, 8.9 is the rating on the 'Richter scale' as of now (the estimate might be revised later). The 2k4 tsunami was around 9.1-9.3 on the Moment Magnitude scale. This could be terrible. Hoping there's no tsunami

According to reports, the National Disaster Management Authority here has ruled out the possibility of a tsunami. Even so, this is the strongest earthquake since last year's Japan quake. There are no reports from Indonesia yet, but this can't be good

Again, I know that there are many who are uneducated and unaware of how serious a tsunami could be and regard it as some sort of magical or mythical occurrence, especially after the events of December 2004.
I'm a chicken man when it comes to those types of things, might watch but only from a safe distance. I hate earthquakes, I was in Mexico City for a big one.
It might be a disaster, but it's also a wonder of nature. I'd watch.. probably from a safe distance though
