Inexpensive fretless suggestions?

Discussion in 'Basses [BG]' started by EvoMan, Dec 10, 2002.

  1. I have always played 4 string fretted instruments, but I am thinking of trying to start playing a fretless. I want a reasonably good instrument, but don't want to spend the money for a premium bass. I'm used to really great instruments, so going to a $200 kicker would drive me crazy. I guess I could spend up to $500.

If money was no issue, I would either buy a Pedulla Buzz or a Zon Sonus (or Hyperbass). Obviously those are too expensive, but I want to get as close as I can without breaking the bank (just bought two fretted basses!). Suggestions?? Thanks.
  2. MTD Kingston or Cort Curbow
  3. MTD Kingston. Next question.

3rd vote for MTD Kingston. Also, the MIM Fender Jazz.
  6. Nice to see some agreement. It is so rare that people agree on these sorts of things. I'll have to check out the MTD. I've seen the MTD Beast (I assume it is a cheaper model) but not the Kingston. Thanks!
  7. I have a sweet MTD Beast fretless 4 closing on ebay tomorrow. Reserve is at $300

    Fender Jazz. Boo yeah.
  10. I have a fretless 5 Cort Curbow and love it. You can't go wrong with either of these basses. If you can't find a Beast, go for a Kingston. I've not played one, but I've read a lot of great reviews about them.

I've been very happy with my Dean Edge 5 fretless, I'd receommend it without hesitation. Manufactured in Korea by Cort. Very nice bass.

I would also recommend the Cort Curbow. Check out the Essex fretless basses at www.rondomusic.com they are really good from what I've read here.
