  1. I just bought this bass:

It plays well enough, but I'm going to swap in an EMG BTC control. The BTC is a concentric knob so I'm looking at replacing a minimum of one knob.

The BTC comes with enough knobs to replace the original knobs with knurled black knobs.

I'm debating on replacing the black with a gold concentric knob and calling it good, or replacing all 3 so that the gold finish matches, at least the 4 knobs in close proximity match. OR replacing them all with rosewood knobs.

    What are your thoughts?

Get a gold concentric and see how well the finish matches. The shape won't match perfectly anyway, so it's basically only the finish that have to match. It it doesn't match get the rest new as well. :)

I wouldn't go for the stock EMG knobs. They look a bit cheap, and doesn't fit the look of your bass very well IMO.

Maybe.... still, I wouldn't be surprised if the black ones turned out to be the best option - not the EMG though, they do look cheap. BTW, the picture is not color corrected, right? white balance seems off and everything looks very... golden. Nice bass :)

  4. Is that a Pomelle Bubinga top?

  5. No idea on the top. It's at the rehearsal space right now.

Looks like bubinga. If you mix and match knobs it will look like you lost a knob and were too cheap or lazy to match it. Same can be said of mixing and matching hardware finish (i.e. black and gold) -- unless you spring for wood knobs.

I'd replace them all with either matching gold knobs or plain matte black knobs like BBG's black aluminum Sadowsky knobs.

  8. I've clicked "rosewood", coz it's TONEwood and you want the best TONE right? :D

Seriously. I'd say go black. Gold hardware always pitts and look crappy after a while from sweat. I hate the stuff.

Black, coz black is the new black.

I chose carrots, just on the offchance that you'd actually make knobs out of real carrots.

Get a gold set, a black set, rosewood set.... when you get tired of the gold set... put on the black set... when you get tired of the black .... you know where I'm going with this.... lol... variety is the spice of life.... don't be so cheap... lol
