Discussion in 'Amps and Cabs [BG]' started by MichiBass, Jun 23, 2007.

  1. Hi,

I have a Hughes & Kettner BassKick BK 100 and I want to plug my bass AND my computer in it. I want to hear the music from my computer in the combo. Is this possible? I have no CD-in jacks :meh:
Can I plug my computer in the Effect Return Jack? Or?
    Please help

This are the i/o on my combo:

If the FX loop of your amp is like most others, then it is a direct interruption of the connection between the preamp section and the power section. So if you plug something into the return, you will either bypass the preamp altogether (defeating the bass input), or just hear the bass input without hearing the computer at all. Depends on how it's wired. Either way, what you want to do won't work. You'll need a separate mixer to combine the bass and computer signals into the one input of the amp.

  3. Hmm, doesen't it work with something like this on the input jack?

I'll ajust the volume from my PC of course...

  4. Mixing down 2 sources with a Y jack is bad for your equipment. Don't do it! :rollno:

  5. Hi, MichiBass

Y works if You make a resistor separation of the input signals (passive mixer).
The stereo connector might not work at all if there's a circuit using the ring/sleeve connection.

IMHO any good practice combo has the FX-return double as a parallel line in.
The most versatile ones have also an effects blend control that allows the line and the preamp signals to be mixed.

I don't have a first hand experience with the H&K line, but the manual will help.

    Just my 0.02€
