Inputs Lakland Skyline JO Fretless

Discussion in 'Basses [BG]' started by basskopf, Mar 4, 2008.

  1. Hi Guys (&Girls?!),

I have been looking for a fretless and have come across the Lakland Skyline Joe Osborne 4 string fretless. The one I am looking at has the ebony fingerboard.

    My questions:
    - sound / tone vs. Fender Jazz Bass (I have an American Deluxe)? i read somewhere the tone is somehow duller than the Fender... opinions?
    - this is a passive bass; anyone strongly recommend the J-Retro active preamp option?
    - is the fingerboard coated in any way (I think not... yet the Fender Jaco model has for example an epoxy coating but uses roundwounds)?
    - also read that the Skyline models have significant weight variations within the same model ?
    - no graphite in the neck??

Thanks for any inputs, ideas, suggestions and the LOW down on this fine instrument.

    Der Basskopf
