Recently I've been hearing a lot around here about inexpensive DeArmond basses going around, some for as little as $99 or so.

Well, imagine my surprise when I walked into the music store near my school today and came eye-level with a DeArmond headstock. Hoping for the best, I took a closer look at the price...

    £230

According to the good folks at XE.com currency conversion, that makes a total in US dollars of..

    $334.99

(Yes it actually came out ending in .99!)

While the ridiculous prices paid by British musicians is no national secret, THIS has got to take the cake.

    We have a winner.

  2. but watch the price on those drop dramatically in a few months- (especially on discontinued models)
I bought a Dearmond Jetstar Special (the long scale bolt-on version) from Peter Cook's Guitar World for £65.

In the last month I bought:

    Pilot Plus V for $159US

S-65 double humbucker guitar for $99US.

Last year, Starfire bass for $300US.

These instruments were simply not marketed very well IMHO. Great deals in my book.

    :D

Sorry its not better in the UK.

Got my Pilot Pro V for only $250!

I have yet to hear the actual truth as to what is causing these price drops. I'm guessing the company is going under, but that doesn't make sense cause anything with Fender backing it can't be doing that bad...

    Don't care though. I got a sweet bass. :D

I got my pilot plus 5 for $160 from Sam Ash. Check the DeArmond/Guild portion of the FDP for whats goin on. DeArmond isn't on the new fender site and the thing that i've heard and believe is that fender is droppin DeArmond & Sunn-Sunn is being absorbed into Fender & a few guitars made by DeArmond might reappear as Squiers [ashbory for example]. check the fender forum for more talk on this and search the archives. www.fenderforum.com BTW i'm Mac86 there.
