Installing Lakland Pickguard

Discussion in 'Basses [BG]' started by Sanctum, Nov 6, 2003.

  1. I'm going to install a pickguard on my Lakland 55-02. I don't even use picks, I'm just going for looks :p

    Anyhow - can someone give me some pre-tips about the drilling - what size bit to use, etc.

    Danke

  2. I did - he's the one that gave me the price. All he said was "we include the screws" but didn't have any extra info, except a suggestion to call one of his techs. But I like you guys better :spit:

    Drilling pickguards for me has always involved:

    * Setting the pickguard in place
    * Taping the pickguard in place so it doesn't slide while you drill
    * Carefully drilling with a Dremel or drill. Be careful to not use a large bit.
    * Blowing of the sawdust
    * Screwing on the guard.

    After you've chosen your screw size, find a drill bit that is the same diameter as the SHANK of the screw. You can eyeball it by holding the bit directly in front of the screw. If you can see only the screw threads behind the bit, you have the right size bit.
