Installing pickups w/1 wire

Discussion in 'Pickups & Electronics [BG]' started by JazzDude, Apr 28, 2004.

  1. This is on a guitar - I have an SD '59 humbucker that has only 1 wire. The sheath is braided and appears to be conductive, and there's a single stranded wire inside.

Does anyone know how to install these? Are you supposed to ground the braid or something like that?

    Thanks.

Usually the braid gets soldered to the back of the volume control with just enough center conductor sticking out to reach the solder terminal on the control.

When doing that, be careful not to over heat the shield and have it melt through the hot lead's insulation potentially causing a short.
