I have a Westfield VB960 violin bass which is hollow.

I would like to put a Q-tuner pickup on it (along with the previous two pickups which are already there).

Instantly there is the problem that the bass is hollow and the top is very thin so as far as I can see installing a "normal" pickup into this bass would be very hard.

I have never done something like this before but as far as I can tell the only way around it would be to place a block of wood in the body and rout the pup into this.

Would this work? Are there better ways of doing it?

    Thanks

Attached is a photo of the bass. I want to put the pickup almost directly above the bridge pickup.

Only thing I can come up with that is rather simple is to build a custom pickup ring like what was used on the oem pups, or like what is used on some guitars.
