    Sup talkbass,

I bought some new pups for my American P-Bass recently and I am having trouble finding a good video or instructional documents on how to install them. I would like to do this myself but I have never done it before.

Any advice or reliable/professional information anywhere on how to do this?

    Please let me know!

    Thanks

The PU manufacture should be able to supply installation instructions. If not, check some of the major PU manufacture's web sites, most publish installation instructions.

Yeah the instructions included with my pups are very scanty. I'm mostly curious about properly adjusting the height relative to the strings/bridge and proper orientation of the pickups. Was wondering if there was a generic sort of P-Bass setup that worked that I could start with and fiddle around with my particular pups until they sound right.

It can't be much more straight forward. Just look at where the two wires of the existing pickups connect to the pots. Cut the old wires off, solder on your new two wires, and screw the new pickups in. I suppose you could do some searches on youtube but it's really very simple. No need to over think it.

Maybe take a couple before pics with your cell phone if you are that concerned you'll make a mistake.

  7. Literally all you do is loosen the strings, remove the pickguard, unscrew the old pickup, desolder the leads, screw in the new pickup, solder its leads, put the pickguard back on, and re-tune the strings.

Pickup height is more of an art than a science. There are measurements to use as a starting point, but you tweak it from there, until it sounds good and stays balanced.
Orientation doesn't matter at all, unless you have staggered pole pieces.
