    hey all-
i recently finished a demo of my original music and as i'm a bassist i'm thinking this is a good place to get feedback! my biggest influence is geddy lee. i've also been influenced by victor wooten, stu hamm and i went through a dream theater phase a few years back that ended once i was able to play all of their songs precisely.
here's a link to my mp3.com page, it may ask you to provide an email address to listen, just enter anything. [email protected] will work for instance...

All very cool stuff. I really dug Reconcile and 2012.

I could really hear the Hamm in 2012. The only real constructive criticism I could give you is that all of your tracks start out in a rather similar fashion, even if they are all rather different beasts. It made me sit through each one to see what it would turn into, but it lacks the ability to grab the listener.

Other than that, I dig your stuff, and now have it downloaded to my computer for further listenings. Good stuff, Smee!

cool, thanks guys. brenden, you're right about that, 3 of my 4 songs have kinda lengthy intros. they are instrumentals after all! "tincture" starts right off though.
what about the rendition of "strawberry fields" arranged for bass? that's kinda my trademark piece... :)
only 2 replies? does that mean everyone else dislikes the songs?!
    :p

Having listened to all of them a few times, I like Orange Hued Curse the best, followed by Aztec Waltz and Hazel in third.

I'm not a big fan of song Strawberry Feilds, though you do a very good arrangement of it.

Very nice work, I really dig the harmonics on tincture, you hit them very well in time and all that, very clean too. The drums are really good too, is that you as well? or is that a computer program? they kind of sound fake:confused:

I agree with brenden, it does take these songs a little while to get interesting, but they still sound great.

You seem to like tablas :p they sound great.

I'm not very fond of this tapping piece(reconcile), it's kind of got a kind of cool vibe but it sounds more like improvisation, like just noodling around than something composed and written out, I keep expecting it to go somewhere, but it doesn't...:meh: that said, you do execute it very well, and certainly it shows a good proficiency in that style of playing.

Strawberry fields is a good arrangement, and it's played very well, good job.

Orange hued Curse(save me the type work) I do not like very much, though, It reminds me very much of Add N to (x) one of my favorite electronic music groups, again, it is performed well, but it doesn't really do it for me.
I've never been a big fan of progressive rock, or really...any rock music at that. :meh:

I really dig this last track...aztec waltz, again, reminds me of Add N to (X) but it is clearly not, and it is very fresh. That peculiar rhythmic figure kind of reminds me of Oingo boingo meets level 42 :p but again, it's not that, it's still very fresh. I really like it.

as for people not responding, you did post a mouthful, if not in your thread in the link you easily have provided a good spooning of music, many people are likely to listen to some but not respond just out of sheer laziness, or people see the amount of songs and just think "I'll do it later" but never do, at anyrate, I doubt it's because they don't like it.

    Keep up the great work!

Awesome stuff! I really like all of the songs. My favorites would have to be Tincture, followed by Strawberry Fields and Reconcile.

I really like the sound of the main line in Aztec Waltz, cool, kind of trippy. It isn't a waltz tho :p ;)

Hazel Light is very cool, I like the way the line progresses, it flows very well together.

    Very cool stuff! :bassist:

cool, thanks again for the comments. it's funny how someone doesn't care for a certain song but another might consider it their favourite! i take it as a good sign though and i'll keep composing. with these first few songs i'm learning you can compose on the bass alone and although they are "just bass songs" they are a good showcase of technique and ability i suppose. i could never imagine them on the radio or that anyone other than a bassist/musician would want to listen to them but they're fun to do in lieu of a band. hopefully they'll help me find another one! oh and yes wrong robot, those are fake drums! just a drum machine on all tracks. i'm working on another one right now, i'll let you all know when it's up.
[i know aZtec waltZ isn't in 3/4; i just liked the connotation of the title, plus aztecs never used the number 3]:p

    Very cool stuff indeed!

There were some things about Strawberry Fields that bugged me a little though - it seems to me that you alter the melody especially in the chorus - is that intended?

  10. I only listened to a little bit of tincture...

    and I like it alot.

I just hit the "bridge" around 1:50...and I just wanna say, you're a great bassist....and W.R is right about them harmonics! :)

    Keep up the good work!

I'd buy a game if it was alright and had this music. I think of Aztec Waltz as a Sonic/porn groove  :)

    Hey

Very nice stuff. I really like it!

My favourite is "Strawberry Fields". All in all very nice playing.

Can you say something about your equipment? How you recorded these songs? And which Software you used, to get these Background Soundings involved?

    thxalot

Good stuff! I listened to a few songs and was quite pleased with what i heard.
For a sec i thought it was going to be a "i've got more strings so i play more notes really fast so i'm good, right?"
I dig the mellow groove on reconcile. And that 10/4 slap groove is dripping with marcus vibe.

Keep up the good work! You're helping to make us six stringers look a bit less wank-ish.

    EXCELLENT!!!

I loved the stuff!! Finally, a bassist who's more concerned with the overall arrangment, mood and feeling instead of demonstrating how they can slap-n-pop all the hardware off their bass!!

This is the kind of solo bass music that I can sink my teeth into. I love the New Age / World feel to it.

Let me know when you get a CD made.. I'd like to buy one.

  16. I really dig this stuff, made do i like. The songs are way cool.

very nice. Definitely got your own vibe going there, didn't sound too derivative to me.
What kind of bass were you using, if you don't mind me asking?
    Nice work.

Wow! This stuff's amazing! That's some really excellent work, really nice job! My favorites are "Orange Hued Curse", then "2012" then "tincture", and I like the rest after that, and Aztec Waltz is really experimental, really good! Keep it up!

PS I would love to hear if you've got anything else!:) :bassist:

    Excellent songs!
