I have always played a lot of covers. I really enjoy learning who wrote a song, who recorded the original and hearing others who have recorded covers. There's often quite a progression of ideas and mutations (think "Train Kept A Rolling as it progressed from Tiny Bradshaw's original recording up through Aerosmith's rendition).

I just found this site "SecondHandSongs". I'm not posting a url because I'm not sure regarding TalkBass policies on this topic, but you can easily Google it. It's not a great web site (loaded with ads) but the information is priceless. You can find that contemporaneous Finnish cover of that pop hit you've been playing for decades. It also links to YouTube and Spotify recordings of the songs.

So, on Aerosmith's "Train Kept A-Rollin'"...that's Dick Wagner & Steve Hunter on guitars, right?

I can't speak to that. I saw Aerosmith perform Train Kept A-Rollin before they recorded it, though. They used to play for free on the Boston Common in the early 70's. Their arrangement has always been the same as the recorded version, to my ears. Their version is based (not surprisingly) on the Yardbirds version, which is what they would have been most familiar with at that time. The Yardbirds, of course, based their version on the Johnny Burnette version, which was the probably the biggest leap from the original jump blues of the Tiny Bradshaw original.

Thanks for the info. Wouldn't be the first time that happened.

FWIW, my first band's single was recorded three years later at the same studio, Intermedia on Newbury Street, where Aerosmith recorded that first LP. Staff were very pleased with the albums' (and Aerosmith's) success but didn't offer up anything about the recording of the record. I still enjoy that lp though, whoever played on it.

I was the guy in my neighborhood with the Aerosmith debut...was not familiar with them, just went with it because of the cover. They looked like a Hard Rock band! :)

The guitarist in my HS garage band had Get Your Wings...loved that album and, truthfully, only bought it recently. Even The Brecker Brothers are on it.
But in HS, I was blown away by "Train" & the dual leads. I was like, wow, these guys in Aerosmith are great. Eventually, I heard/read it was Wagner/Hunter...two Rock guitar hired guns.
    :)

Wow, haven't heard that name in a long time! I lived in Boston from '78-87 and did at least one session at Intermedia and then a couple more after it became Syncro Sound. That place was the Big Cheese for a long time.

Just down the street from EU Wurlitzer where I bought my Acoustic 370. *Sigh* Those days in Boston are long gone. I think it's a Japanese Restaurant now.
