Just how clean does the IOD get? Would you compare it more to an svt or a swr bass 350? I'm looking for preamp that will give me grind but also the trademark swr sound. I've searched all the threads and come up unsatisfied. Any comments would be appreciated. I just wish I could try out the damn thing and hear it for myself.
both. with a twist of a knob, you can have anything you want. but yes, with the blend knob set to "direct", it sounds damn near identical to my old bass 350. jason
Jason, my guitar player friend came over the other night and I asked him to plug a Strat into the IOD; I then plugged the IOD (speaker out) into a 2-12" sealed cab with Celestion Vintage 30's. He was shocked at the "rock-n-roll" coming from the speakers (ha ha). Granted, this is pre EQ and the drive knob is all you've got (what you hear is what you get) but it's really quite cool from a "Bass Preamp". Tapp
no doubt man - i'm gonna make my guitar player play through it when we record our cd for any overdriven parts...sounds a million times better than his fender ultimate chorus for distortion. jason
Next IOD tone question: With the drive dialed completely out, how close will the IOD get to the Alembic F-1X fat-tube tone? Bass NW sent me a note about $575 new, plus another $106 for the foot pedal. Yikes... need to find one used.
If anyone's interested, there is a scratch and dent IOD at Musician's Friend for something like $439.
with the drive knob OFF - all you're getting is the single 12ax7 preamp tube - i'd say it sounds like a bass 350. but, you turn up the drive knob until just before it starts overdriving, then set the blend knob at 3 0clock. mmm. jason
