Ernie Ball Music Man has reimagined and revoiced one of the most iconic basses in history. New electronics feature powerful neodymium magnets, which EBMM says "bring you more output and a wider tonal range". New features also include a 5-bold sculpted neck joint which "provides uninhibited access to all 22 frets", and enhanced body contours that are rounded for more comfort.

Reengineered lightweight tuning machines create a more balanced neck, and help bring the total weight of this bass down to an average of 8.5 pounds.

A newly designed 18-volt 3-Band preamp delivers more headroom than traditional 9-volt.

I think I will eventually get one since the weight is coming down. Looks like a 5 will weight around 9.2 lbs, wish it was a little lighter and they would of chambered the body. But overall looks great.

I don't know if they Pro Tooled the audio background music but it sounds very "Piano" like.
  6. I'm gaga for the ebony fingerboard and roasted neck.

I agree but I'd be kinda concerned about neck dive at some point FWIW.

Center of balance is still well within the strap points, so you don't have to worry about neck dive. They lightened the tuners considerably and roasting the neck makes the neck lighter.

  11. Honestly, these are actually some pretty thoughtful tweaks to a classic design.

What am I most excited about? The possibility of these leading to a FLOOD of decent-quality, used Stingrays!

I love my Fender Jazz bass something fierce. But the Ernie Ball instrument is a thing of beauty. That Bongo bass is lovely to look at; and I know it's not entirely about the aesthetics, but I'd buy one. The Stingray is beautiful too. Right now, however--my main concern is becoming a bass player. :)

Yes. I had a 4 string ray when they were using "select hardwood." The body was lighter than ash, it had bad neck dive.

Anybody know what the neck thickness is from front to back at the 1st and 12th fret? Lakland and G&L post these specs. I didn't see it on EBMM's website.
