LiR is an (unfortunately) obscure band from Ireland that recorded a couple of outstanding CDs in the early 90s, "Magico, Magico" and "Nest" (I have both). I was wondering if anyone else here has heard these guys and likes them as much as I do. Pretty amazing musicians and songwriters (bassist Robert Malone is VERY solid) and they have their own sound. Supposedly, they are stilla round and are mainly playing in Ireland, but if you can get your hands on either CD, definitely do so. You'll thank me.
Yep. I dig them. Well, I dig cletic music in general, so they get my seal of approval. I liked Nest a bit better than Magico Magico, but that's me.
Ive heard of them, on a side note, I am opening up for the Commitments Aug 1, from the early 90s movie.
I caught a Scottish band on TG4 the other night (Irish station) called cappercaille(sp)......great stuff some pretty funky bass/rhythm things going on as well (although I still cant fathom why anyone would want to play a 6 stringer in a trad band). also check out: Moving Hearts (Eoghan O Neil is God IMO) Solas CoolFinn (now defunct but a pretty good album) Eileen Ivers (the crossing the bridge album is fantastic). Michael McGoldrick(sp). A huge touring trad band here is Kila, they're sort of the poster boys for trad at the moment..personally they leave me cold..lots and lots of noodly percussion solos that dont really go anywhere (if I want to listen to percussion I'll stick with youssou n'dour).
