For a wide 5 bass. I have a carvin wide 5 bridge the center to center on it is 3" I also want to use the fingerboard I have in another post on it. The fb is only 3" wide. I have never made a "wide 5" before. I think I may be up the creek. Am I?

  2. you should be good with that width. just draw full size (or using a CAD program) your string spread at bridge, nut width and scale length. Then estimate your fingerboard length (usually roughly between 23" to 28" depending on the number of frets). Add about 1/8" on each side at your last fret and that should tell you the fingerboard width there.

Three inches?! Are you MAD man?! Nah, I kid. The "wide" option on Warmoth's Gecko 5 is 3", so you're not not THAT crazy. :smug:

Typically, a 5 string with "full fender 3/4" string spacing at the bridge has a fingerboard that is 3" wide at the heel or 24th fret, so you should be good to go.

.75" string spacing at bridge times 4 spaces = 3.0".

Keep in mind that you will have no slop whatsoever to work with if you go this route. Personally, I like the finished width @ the 24th to be the B-G spacing at the bridge + 1/8" so I wouldn't use that board for this bass.

It does sound tight. It will only be a 21 fret bass.t

Yeah binding is a good way to build up a narrow fingerboard you really want to use.
