is a stingray bigger than a jazz bass?
in length and body size?
I think the body might be a tiny bit smaller but they definitely feel bulkier.
A stringray's definately bulkier.
A Stingray is 13.5" wide and 44 7/8" long.
I suspect the lower bout of the Jazz makes it a tiny bit longer.
Well the Ray is slightly shorter because the headstock isn't as long. Width is about the same.
This post got me wondering, so I got out the camera. It's close. The 'Ray is definitely heavier, and to me feels bigger, but it seems the Jazz is bigger.
Bigger and generally heavier. My SR4 is over 10lbs and none of my 12 Fenders are much over 9.
If the OLP is the same size as the matching Stingray, then the Fender is @2" longer. I can carry my OLP in the same aftermarket hard case that I use for my Jazz and P. The lower body on the OLP is perhaps an inch wider.
I used to have a SR 4. It was a just a little bit wider than my Fender Jazzes, and would not quite fit into a rectangular Jazz case.
I always though Rays were bigger, they feel bigger!!
OK, I just used a tape measure, I didn't remove hardware or strings, but I'm pretty close.
Width just above the jack on the Jazz, 13.5"
Width bottom of Pup MM, 13.25"
Length top of headstock to the strap button Jazz, 46"
Length top of headstock to the strap button MM, 45"
Width base of neck, Jazz 11"
Width base of neck MM, 9.75"
Length top of neck pocket to the strap button Jazz, 17"
Length top of neck pocket to the strap button MM, 16.5"
I guess pictures don't lie. Maybe the MM is as wide or even a little wider at some point in the contour, but at what I would think are the key points, the Jazz is wider and longer.
I ain't getting a scale out; the MM is heavier, and for some reason feels bigger. I spend much more time with my Jazz, maybe that's why when I strap on the MM is feels a little cumbersome.
Of course, I suppose there could be some slight production variations from the manufacturer(s) also.
So rays' are only bigger in tone then. hehe
The neck is bigger so that may be part of the reason they feel bigger. Jazzes definitely have larger bodies though.
Good one! That may be a little harder to measure...
My thoughts exactly.
