Due to problems in the pots, i put the pickup wires through the jack's holes.
At first, the two blacks together

When the wires came out, i put the red from the bridge pickup with the black from the neck, and the white from the neck with the black from the bridge

With this second setting the bass has much more mids and highs and the low end gets quieter.

What is the name of this difference in wiring? Can it be switched onto with a push/pull?

  2. That would be series/parallel wiring.
Parallel is when you connect both hots together and both commons together.
Series is when you connect 1 common and 1 hot together and connect the other hot and common respectively as if it was one pickup.

Yes you can use a push/pull pot to switch between both.
Here’s a wiring diagram. Use the top left wiring. upload_2018-12-10_11-57-7.
