Is it the Switch?

Discussion in 'Basses [BG]' started by MadPink, May 3, 2002.

  1. On my Ric4001 when I move the switch the one pickup keeps going out and then ill move it a bit and it will start working again. Then sometimes it seems that both pickups are on even when i have the switch in the up/down position. is it the switch thats screwed?
  2. I'm moving this to basses as this is not a question asking about recording.

It sounds like the pickup switch is the problem to me. You might try pulling the pickguard off so you can see what the contacts are doing as you move the switch back and forth--it may be that they're dirty or bent, and you can just straighten or clean them rahter than replacing the switch.

    Good luck!

My 1981 production 4001 did the same when I first got it. Very easily fixed by cleaning the exposed switch contacts with a deoxidiser pen.
