That some semi hollow basses will always have an internal buzz when you play them. I know that these just like solid body basses are ment to be played throw an amp but i practice alot unpluged and buzzing drives me mad. Does any one ever judge a bass unpluged when buying. Thanks

I always play a bass unplugged to hear how it sounds.

It gives me an idea of how the bass's pickups influence the tone, and how much I can do to change it.

It also gives you a feel for the resonance and overall feel of the bass without the loud sound distracting you.

    Peace

Good because for years i have paid more attention to the resonance of the bass then the pick ups. I allways felt you could have a great bass but just needs new pickups.
