Hey I want to buy a Ken Smith bass, I love the sound and the look. I got a 4x10 Hartke VX Series amp. I wanted to know if this was a good idea. Is ken smith the best?

From his time here, I'd say that he's a really nice guy.

I'd also say that everyone has their own answer for 'who's the best'...and they're not the same guy.

I think, before you go and spend $X,000.000 on a Smith you spend some time playing high end basses and seeing what your options are.

I'd also think about upgrading from a VX to a really nice amp first...

To be serious - I agree with all these points.

I would just add that a Ken Smith 6-string I played in London, was certainly my favourite BG out of all those I've ever tried out of hundreds of different makes.....:)

It was priced however, at about twice my maximum budget for spending on basses and amps put together!! ;)

    No bass is the best.

No brand of bass is the best.

Some bass or brand of bass may be the best for you.

That being said, Smith Basses are generally considered to be very consistent, fantastic for some people, fairly expensive, instruments.

Sounds like this is a good idea for you, assuming that finances, and thirty other personal life factors that we have no clue about, allow it.

Great guy and a helluva bass player.

Not the BEST bass, because that's opinion.

A bass I certainly wouldn't shake a stick at, and I plan to own one in the future.

One of the best and consistent instruments around. If you like the sound it is great. It is definitely one of the best built instruments around

Yes! Ken Smith basses are the best.

There are no other basses that are as good as a Ken Smith. They have the best tone, are the most comfortable, best looking, and best value bass you can buy.

Don't waste you time looking at other basses, nothing is as good as a Ken Smith.

    Everyone knows this.

Hah! I wish it were that simple. I just love threads like this; almost as much as I love users with nothing in their profile.

Get off your behind and go play some basses. Try cheap ones, try $5000 ones. They are all different. Some may suit u, some wont. Its all up to your ears and hands. Make your own decision.

KS basses are very nice. Very respected man and builder.

Keep in mind there are many guys like him who make a great bass guitar. Keep an open mind.

It's about what's best for you. I have a Smith and it's a great bass. Once you gravitate into that price range they're all good and you have to decide what's BEST for you. You can't go wrong with a Smith. Good Luck!
