Is modding pedals easy?

Discussion in 'Effects [BG]' started by Patrick Spence-Lewis, Apr 4, 2015.

  1. Hey, I want to modify my Tc Electronic Switch - 3. I want to add lights so for each switch the light is red when it is enabled and green when it's not. Is modding pedals easy? Thanks
  2. i looked through a diy pedal book at radioshack. let's just say, i'm not think about purchasing it anytime soon.

my cousin i good at that stuff. last i check, he made a backlit gameboy color.

I wouldn't say that modding pedals is 'easy'... It really depends on the modification you want to apply.
Lucky for you, what you're trying to do does not modify the circuit functions, you're adding a functional layer overtop without messing in the original function guts (as opposed to controlling a knob w expression pedal or altering circuit specs)

What you'd need to do is replace the three switches with ones that have an extra pull, and wire in an led with battery and resistor. The switches can control an led and not mix/interact with the functional circuit in any way. Those switches will cost you though, maybe 10$ a piece?

The switch 3 is actually very simple. It's a simple Tip/Sleeve/Tip+Sleeve pedal. You could modify or just build a brand new one, that would be easier and cheaper.

Order the parts from places like mouser or digikey.
  5. Thanks for finding that man! :D
  6. Well I'll find out soon. I'm wanting to build a mini size pedal with an up and down switch each end to toggle through loops on the jamman xt. I had the digitech one but never used the mode switch at all and it's an odd shape that won't fit on my pt mini at this point.
