Hello, I am looking for a new bass.
Would like to know If Sterling Ray 34 was the exact copy of Musicman Stingray:Electronics,P.U. etc.

    Thank you in advance

    Pretty much.

Doesn't mean that the quality of the build and components are the same though.

I use to have a Ray 34 and for the price its hard to beat, especially used. But Exact copy? No. The website reads Musicman "designed" pickups and pre. This tells me that they're not the exact ones in Stingrays.

Like I said they're good for the price but mine didnt sound nearly as good as a Stingray IMO, was pretty heavy, has cheaper hardware and had a high fret, didnt play as well.

The first Sterling by Music Man basses were very close to American basses, but the last one I played had a terrible preamp that sounded very harsh to my ears. The bass looked beautiful and the finish was close to that of one of the Classic Stingrays, but the sound was horrible. I don't know if it was just a bad bass or they sound llike that.

They are exact copies in that all the parts are interchangeable, but the parts are not the same. So, you wind up with an inferior product that looks like the original. Of course, that "inferior" comment only applies as compared to the original, it's still a decent bass at its price point.
