For a live gig? I have an opportunity to pick one up for $75, but i want tomake sure i can actually ue it in a gig situation. -sammy
Define 'gig'. Thrash metal w/3 loud guitars for a crowd of 10,000, no. Coffee house w/acoustic guitar & hand drums, yes. Lots of room in between.
For that price, if it works you can't go wrong. I have a 350w head and it does the job just fine, pa support will help.
I personally dislike that head greatly, but for $75 you simply can't go wrong. Snag it for that price and if you don't like it, you'll be able to sell it for triple the original price.
I agree. I had this head and it was OK. Once you start pushing it it you get some nasty SS distortion. But if you're playing through some decent cabs and avoid clipping it it will definitely be passable. And for $75, who cares? Flip it if it doesn't work out and enjoy the free money .
I believe every response. They're all 100% correct. Not a great amp, but decent, and for that price, why not indeed.
Slow down there. I have this head and it works out great for eveything small and medium scale I do, short of an outdoor gig. I run it through a 410he and yea it gets that nasty S.S. distortion when pushed too hard but ANY S.S. head sounds crappy when pushed too hard. For $75 thats a no brainer. It has that Ampeg tone, it's reliable,it's a good little head. Don't expect the moon from it and it won't disappoint.
