Weird question. I noticed my fender American standard jazz bass that I bought new in 2010 was made in 2009 based on the serial number. I've never taken the neck off but have seen vintage basses with the years and months written on the neck block where it meets the body. Is that still a thing? If i take the neck off will there be a month and year written on it? I don't want to take the neck off if someone knows they stopped that in the 60s
I think they still stamp it on neck butt and possibly the pocket. At least my 2014 Adam Clayton Jazz bass has a neck and body stamp.
Yes they are stamping them. I've seen a few used newer necks for sale on ebay with stamped necks (2003, 2019...).
I had a 2008 revamped P Bass that according to the S/N came off the line in 2007. You'd think Fender would pay attention to details like this as we here are so very prone to geeking out over such small matters, but no.
The date would be when the neck was made. It could easily sit for a while before it gets used although a year seems a bit long but it could have sat in the store for a while as well.
