My town is famous for Champagne, being the town where all French kings were crowned and a bigass cathedral with the most statues in the World.

I grew up in Cullercoats - historically quite a small village, but part of a larger urban sprawl on the NE coast of England.

I only recently discovered its famous in America, as the place that Winslow Homer lived: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Winslow_Homer. Despite being a "a preeminent figure in American art" I don't think anyone in Cullercoats has even heard of him. They demolished the place he lived a couple of years ago to build flats without much of a thought. Someone missed a trick to make a FORTUNE charging $1000 per night for rich americans to stay in the actual hotel room he used. Especially as the bay looks EXACTLY as it did back then, with many landmark buildings in the paintings instantly recognisable form my childhood.

It was also famous for being in the Dire Straits song "Tunnel of Love". (the Spanish City closed a few years ago, but its a listed building, so the dome is still there - just looking very run down).

Now I live at the other end of the country in Bournemouth - Banks, and Stag/Hen parties... Not quite so cool...
