Particularly one familiar with small/civil court process and proceedings that wouldn't mind giving me an informed opinion?

(Ok TBOT, let me have it...)

I'm a Paralegal, its that enough? I understand most basic court processes but not a lawyer yet.

You have a hilarious avatar, so I am sure you have a sound legal mind. In short, I am being sued in civil court by my old landlord for around $1400 for apt damages and late notice. I have been asked by the court for a written answer. I can email you my reply if you think you can critique it, and what generally happens in these matters (win or lose)? What is the process and what is the best way to proceed?
