Finally, the 404 is gone. It's been sitting in a case for years, and now, will have a spot in a new music room, with people who will play it.

    So long BB.:)

  5. As a very recent Yamaha convert and a late-comer to the party, I would have missed it.
@tombowlus, thank you for re-posting the review!

I can't say I've tried stainless steels yet on any of my BB425's, but in general I would agree that the pickups are on the aggressive side. I've seen it stated in an article on the "net" that the BB series is an iconic "rock" bass and I guess I would agree with that too for the most part. I've had great luck with nickel wounds and find myself cutting EQ at around 800Hz-1Khz and everything is right as rain as far as my needs go. I really like Rotosound strings, but those too I find a bit aggressive by themselves - perhaps the combo of Roto stainless and the ceramic pickups on the 424/425 series might be too much awesome for one bass to handle. :D

I did a test recording the other night with my BB425x and a fresh set of nickel wounds on a pretty mellow tune - I was very happy with the results, but again - even with the nickels, I usually find myself rolling back the tone knob when recording.

  9. i had heard good things about the yamaha bags so i looked forward to seeing them. i was a little underwhelmed though. while i do like the softness of the yamaha bag, it's not as rigid as a roadrunner bag i have so i'm not sure it will protect it as well. also the handles and straps are a little on the flimsy side in comparison.
they are nice bags but i probably will just use them to store basses at home.
the gig bags that revstar guitars come with match so that's nice.

My first Yamaha. After some search using the serial number and pictures on the net, I believe it to be part of the BB series, dating April of 2005? Yamaha owners/experts, please chime in to set me straight or confirm. Only thing I've done is slap some new strings on it and it really sounds good. Neck plays well and may not need a setup but if so, will do that later.
