I keep seeinf snippets that make this new Cort/Elrick sound really promising. And you really can't beat that price. But I want a fretless. Are they planning to market a fretless model or am I out of luck?

Hey Bard.....I certainly hope so because this bass smokes! It's replaced (groan!) by MTD 535...the neck is just wonderful for me...smooth and very fast...it just feels right...and it sounds even better! I'm going to the NAMM show in a couple of weeks and I will be inquiring further about a possible fretless or 4-string model....I'd buy 'em because IMHO this bass is that good....you've got to check one out, especially at these prices.

Well I loved the one Elrick I ever got to play. The friend that had it was at NAMM and said the Josh Paul was nearly as good as his bass. That is high praise indeed, especially coming from him. And at that price it's hard to pass up. But I want a fretless. *Sigh*:meh:

Back to this subject and considering the Jaco mod for one, are they rosewood or ebony 'boards?

I asked the luthier I take my stuff to for big problems if he could coat the fingerboard on my Jazz. He told me that rosewood won't hold a coating well. The oils in the wood rise to the surface and 'float' the coating off, so it peels up in sheets.

He says maple and ebony take it fine. But he won't do rosewood any more.
