I'm looking for a 19" rack with removable front and back doors, but also with removable sides and maybe even a removable top. Does that exist? I've never seen one :meh:

    Thanks,

There are people/companies that make custom rack cases. Where I live these are usually people involved in rental companies who like to earn an extra income. Ask around in your neighborhood - probably the guys at guitar stores know someone.

Deacon, that's not what I meant. The rack in the link you posted does not have removable sides, only front, back and top. ;)

CytreX, you're probably right. Custom made is the way to go.
I was thinking to get an open 19" frame and slide a cube over it for transportation. Kind of like a sleeve for a cabinet, but in wood. Now, gotta find someone who's willing to built that for me :smug:

    Ciao

Removable sides? Why on earth do you want that? You have to fix your equipment to something too...

By the way, it's not that difficult to build a rack yourself. I've done it. If you want something special, you'll get it much cheaper that way than to order something custom built.

  7. One reason would be that you own one of them brain dead amp designs that has vents for the fan intake and exhaust on the sides of the (rack mounted) amp. Stupid, but such stuff is pretty common. SWR's are like this.

I'm looking for a variation on this idea. I have a few pieces of 19" equipment (compressor, power conditioner, preamps) sitting loose on a bookshelf in my music room. I'd like to find a holder to keep them in place, and do not want sides, bottom, back or top on this rack. Any pointers to such a rack? Thanks.

Buy two rack rails and bolt your equipment to 'em. Or lobby for a government-funded study on attacking this insidious and complex problem head-on.

    There you go ;-)

My Mesa 400+ also has a fan on the side :(

My Mackie 1400W amps do this. I have never had a problem with overheating even running 2Ω per channel. If there is enough air flow through the cooling tunnel there are no problems. The problems come with poor amplifier design not side vents.

I've used a couple of those as PA amps (M1300i, IIRC). I liked the fact they were side vented, there were still enough room on the sides (over an inch free space per side) for the venting. The rack was home-made but had standard rack rails so that didn't matter. We had three 2HE amps in that 6HE rack without problem thanks to the side venting.

You buy some 3/4" or 1" square aluminum tube or steel if you are weight crazy. You purchase rack rails from Musician's Friend. You then have your local welder make a nice cube with the rack rails bolted to the front and rear if needed. You put nice handles on top / sides... or a welded bar works as a handle for that matter.

Then you order up a custom ATA box from Jan-AL or Anvil that just fits your custom aluminum tube cube with your gear bolted in and you are happier than a pig in slop.

Google and you never know there might be somebody already out there doing this. The big custom ATA houses do everything.
