I find it weird that I love all kinds of finishes on basses yet the color of every last one of my basses is black. Same goes with guitars but all my guitars are white. This is by pure accident but it's not a bad thing I don't think.
Is there such a thing as overkill on having black instruments?

No, not at all. I've got 4 black basses. Looks like you're rocking the Bee Mountain graphics amalgamation stickers too.

Nice collection of basses! But, yeah; that's too much black. Have you ever considered Sunburst?!?! :D

    Sunburst and Maple wRW.

edited: (I have a black bass in the works, by the way, just don't have all the parts together yet:))

I modified a Squier VM 77 to look exactly like your Geddy. $1200 difference in price but it looks almost the same! Nice collection my friend. I have the 3 TSB MIM Geddy with a red Pearloid guard. All of them with the amalgamation stickers. I'm eventually going to try the engraved look with an inexpensive pickguard, in case I screw it up I won't be out too much cash.

Ummm, too much is a relative term, but diversity is a good thing:

However, it is not by accident that you've chosen all black basses or all white guitars.

You may be right. I could just have an affinity for black and white.

I love burst. I've owned a few actually. I've owned quite a few different colors. It just happens that my collection as it stands now is all black.

What's the one on the far left with the tele neck?

  13. I actually only have one black bass. And I might eventually refinish it white. The others are blue sunburst, brown burst, and purple.

    I have 7 black basses...

A black bass is like having a good suit...goes with anything.

  16. I saw Clapton on the toob last night. He had what was either very dark gray or black, metallic, semi-gloss.
No it wasn't a bass, and yes it was Clapton, but I sure liked that finish.

I personally believe the color of the instrument plays a part in your buying decision, even if it doesn't seem to, and there's nothing wrong with gravitating to particular color schemes...its part of your individual identity.

Is it possible to have too much black?

I don't know, but you can get to the point where there is "none more black":
