If I use an Ampeg SVT-410HLF (4-ohms), and combine it with an Avatar 2X10 (8-ohms) daisy chained to an Avatar 1X15 (8-ohms), is my totol impedance 2 ohms?

    Thanks - Skel

Two 8 ohm loads in parallel = 4 ohm load

Two 4 ohm loads in parallel = 2 ohm load

(Two 8 ohm loads in parallel = 4 ohm load) + one 4 ohm load = Two 4 ohm loads in parallel = 2 ohm load

In other words, yes that's a two ohm load.

  3. you'd probably have to wire it funky though, eh?

No - the Avatars have two 1/4 inputs, so I just go out of one of the speaker outs of the amp into one avatar, then chain to the other avatar. The other speaker out of the amp goes to the SVT-410HLF, and then I just set my impedance on my SVT Classic to 2-ohms. Thanks for the guidance.

Geez, what are you going to use to power all those cabs?

No, it's not. A 4 ohm in parallel with an 8 will not give you 2 ohms total. That 1/2'ing thing only works when the loads are of equal value. I forget the formula, but that total load will be someplace in the 2.5 to 3.5 ohm range. That, matters on his old SVT

An 8 ohm and a 4 ohm cab together is 2.67 ohms.

    2 8's and a 4 is 2 ohms.

What's the formula for uneven values in parallel again ?

just keep paralleling all ya want..
many power amps are spec'd at 2 ohms.. never seen one specified at less than 2 ... have to be a hummer... almost a direct short to ground, and speakert cables would become very important..

  10. You missed one of the 8 ohm cabs, 2 8's with 1 4 = 2.

    A x B/(A + B) for 2 cabs, A and B

    or 1/(1/a+1/b+1/c+1/d) for 4 cabs.

Ok, so it is 2 ohms. I'm gonna use an SVT Classic to run the cabs - it's just an experiment. Although, I was reading about John Entwistle in his early days, and that guy had the biggest Sunn rig in the world - about 20 cabinets - so this is like his spare change.
