Is this a dumb trade?

  1. I have 2 Fender 5-strings with alder bodies and pau ferro boards, so something has to go. I have offered my Fender Roscoe Beck 5-string to someone who will swap a Yamaha TRB5P for it, even-up.

The Yamaha is a neck-thru with a piezo bridge (something none of my other basses have) and a maple body (I don't have a maple-bodied 5, either). So it has cool features I'd like to have in my "stable" of basses.

But still, is the DEAL good?

Yamaha basses do not hold their value very well for some reason. I personally like the more "Fenderish" Yamaha basses like the BB series.

Personally I'd rather own a Roscoe Beck 5 than the TRB5P. I had a 6P and was always playing with the EQ while on gigs because I just could not get the tone I wanted out of it. I sold mine and don't miss it. The RB5 is a great sounding bass and I never got a tone I did not like out of it.
