Is this a "Real" Rickenbacker?

Discussion in 'Basses [BG]' started by Neo1, Jun 22, 2021.

  1. This is a local sale. I asked some questions, and he sent me these pictures. Seller says he bought it cheaply, so thinks it's a copy, but isn't sure. I looked up some threads here, and it says binding all the way around is sign it's not legit, and the blank output jack plate is also a bad sign. Can anyone with more knowledge than me verify this? Thanks for sharing your knowledge.

So much wrong with it! This is one of those "classic" Far East fakers. If you need some firewood, perhaps go for it.

Nope. Neck joint on the back should be flush with the body. Chinafaker.

Not even a great copy. Poorly stamped baseplate for the tuners, set neck?, binding, cheesy bridge (worse than the real thing:roflmao:).

Might be fun for a few bucks.

Nope......the first thing I look for in determining a Chickenbacker right away without looking for all the extra wrongliness is to look for the extra fret....not all Chinese ones have the extra fret but this one does......

Not a real Rick. Not even a good copy.

That being said, if it's under 200ish with the case, it could be fun. If it's more than 200ish, run away. IMO.

  16. As everyone else here has already said (and rightly so): THIS IS NOT A RICKENBACKER!!!!!
  17. Not a real Rickenbacker price, but more than most fakes go for (and therefore, I will not be adding a [fake] Ric to my arsenal). Thanks to all for the quick replies and information (major or minor, I am always learning something here - and a sincere thanks for that).
  18. I'm not a Ric expert, but that looks fake.

If a Craigslist advertisement, know that your risk of being ripped off is increased. Interesting bass, but, pass on it.

I waited for three decades for my 4003. It was worth it.
