is this a "standard" Fender pickguard configuration?

    it's a Fender Japan model, sorta looks like a P deluxe guard,but I wasn't sure..
I'm thinking of throwing a tort guard on there, and maybe adding a preamp, I love that Oly/tort look..I'd email the shop in Japan, but the language barrier,etc..
    whataya say.. do-able?

I guess if they have replacement guards,I'll see them when I get there...or I can worry about that later, when I get back.

  2. Never seen one like that before... Looks interesting though, let us know what you discover!

I compared it by eye to another P-bass online. I do love the stingray style pickup that is stuck up there.

It looks like a standard P pickguard with an extra pot.

what a cool idea, a seymour duncan MM in the bridge?:eyebrow:

..I'm between this one and this other silver sparkle J bass they have in Tokyo, a LE for that area only..u GOTS to see this one,
    http://store.shopping.yahoo.co.jp/ikebe/0000082852.html
figured I'd toss a Sadowsky pre in there, if it fits..
I kinda want both, but I figure one will be right for me..

gonna bring one of these back with me,I'd love it if they could toss a tort guard on the white one,but i figure i could worry about it later..here's what they say about this P bass..(using a Yahoo translator,so it's sort of broken english)
the "Baki" they refer to is a Japanese Rockstar, from what my wife tells me.

  6. The pickguard and screws all look like they are in the "normal" Fender postions... Also looks to me that there is just an extra pot..

It's hard to tell from the angle with the bottom two knobs(closest to the output jack) may be ins slightly different spots.

hopefully they'll have some replacement guards, I've always wanted a white/tort Fender..
if not, maybe it's better to buy a standard Pbass guard and drill a hole, rather than chancing a US P Deluxe 3 hole type, which may be spaced differently..
I've only seen this model once,on a particular shop's site,it's not on Fender Japan's site,actually..but apparently there are special edition models produced for certain areas or stores only..like the silver one, another one not on the FJ site.
Imagine tossing that MM in a Jazz,u could split the coils for JJ,or MM..I'd definitely go for that..
The P/MM setup on the US P Deluxe series basses have that horrible honky sounding MM,which are useless to me,
I'm guessing the Duncans are alot more powerful..

the only thing I wasn't nuts about were the glossy necks..
I'd like to see if I can get a Sadowsky or Aguilar pre to fit that P..

Man, I've never liked those sparkle flake finishes, but that silver Jazz with the transparent turquoise pickguard is sooooo hot!
