The bass is pretty nice, but is the thing that he says valid? Check it out http://cgi.ebay.com/aw-cgi/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=1476983682
check out the pic w/ he "made in japan". kinda looks like he blurred out the real deal below, then typed that in w/ photoshop. compare it to the distance pic of the back of the bass...I see a discrepancy, personally.
I have owned one of these, also a matching Jazz, and they are very good. They are NOT collectors items, but they are pretty darn good. They are light, have very vintage style necks, right down to guitar size fret wire, and have very good pickups. They are indeed made in Japan, and the only thing wrong with them is the "fotoflame" IMO. For those that dont know, it's a photographic film of flame maple laid on the body and then somehow treated. Many makers today still use it (Nino-your Sad. might have it....haha, just kidding), eg; Yamaha BBN4, Ibanez BTB, Washburn etc. I think that if Fender Japan had produced these with a regular finish, they would have had a winner. BTW, I stripped the fotoflame off both mine, and refinished them in solid colours.
Is it just me or is the bass left handed in the picture of the entire bass and right handed in all the other pictures? I'm guessing the guy was messing around in photoshop and flipped the image. Of course there's no way to tell what else he did in photoshop.
Yeah it looks like that to me too. And in the headstock close up, doesnt the headstock look to fat compared to other Fenders?
The grey thing below the "made in Japan" text is the serial number. That's how they do it. No discrepancy, IMO.

The "made in japan" is fake - if you blow it up and look at it I think it's pretty clear. Also, the headstock decal looks funky under magnification but may be genuine. There's no truss rod adjustment at the headstock but I've seen other MIJ Precisions without it. One more thing to look at - this isn't a player's instrument. If you look at the bridge either the intonation is way wrong or the neck's tweaked. caveat emptor, allan
You guy's have too much time on your hands. . The bass looks legit. I've seen many Foto Flames & it seems ok. The only thing I see wrong w/it is the seller is asking $600 for it w/a Buy it Now price of $650. I think I'm gonna trade my Sadowsky for it.
Allen: Hey, thanks man. it looks a little odd to me. it could be legit, but not for my money, at even half the BIN. THANKS! Tim
my fender jazz (geddy lee) is made in japan, and it says "crafted in japan" and not "made in japan" although that could be a legitimate difference between differing models, in light of the other posts here, it's made me suspicious.
He even says that it beats out American made Fenders and Custom Shop Bass? Hellllllllloooo? Essquueze me? I can't believe this guy spends the time describing this bass. No wonder there's no bid. I'll take it for $50 bucks.
He's trying to sell the bass. What do you think he's gonna put in the description: "The bass plays like $hit. Alot of USA models & all Custom Shop models blow it out of the water." I still think it's legit & he's asking too much for it.
