I am working on a 1971 Fender Precision Bass. I am mainly a guitar guy and I wire up strats and LP's all the time so a single pickup bass diddnt look all that hard. I wired it up to factory specs, but when I roll the tone back, about 80% of the volume is gone. they are all original 250k pots, a .05 Mfd Capacitor, all works fine except for the drop in volume.
    is this normal for P-basses.
  2. This is not normal for any P bass I've owned or played.

Are you perceiving the tone change, as a drop in volume?

Can you post the diagram you followed?

Don't do Fenders but remember running across comment R guitarelectronics.com about substantial loss in volume in jacking with tone on a standard Fender - seems was a two pup system tho. Go to that site, into pups/electronics, and there's a section under the heading of electronic alterations or wiring diagrams, something like. Might be what you're looking for.
