Is this really an old Kay made bass?

  1. I recently purchased a bass manufactured by K. Meyer. The model name on the tag appears to be "Challenger". The serial number is 6065. According to the website K. Meyer was an early brand name for basses Made in the USA by Kay. Can anyone confirm this? The bass is pretty beat up, has been refinished and has a neck repair. The repair appears to have been done professionally. I paid $500, delivered to my house. If anyone has any info on this or can direct me to a resource for info, I would greatly appreciate it.

I have seen countless references to that website and have never heard anyone express reason to discount the accuracy of the information shared there.

If you post a photo, I am sure folks here can support whether or not it is really a Kay. While they have varied a bit over the years, they are fairly distinguishable by sight.

The site suggests that if indeed it is, it would be among the first incarnations. That makes it pretty neat in my eyes.
