Can anyone tell me how a 4-string P-Bass's pickups should be set up? I've noticed recently that my E string sounds very weak, and gets buried when I'm playing live compared to the other strings, that cut through a lot better. I've tried a lot of different EQ settings, adding and removing EQ and messing with compression, but I still can't get the sound I want from the top string. The pickup looks like it's set too low to me, it's about 1.3 cm away from the string below the E. The other strings sound fine, so does anybody know what the ideal height of the pickup should be?

Either raise that end of the pickup, lower the string, or both.

I've had pretty good luck with depressing the string at the highest fret and then adjusting the pickup to about 1/8" (3.18 mm, if my metric conversion is correct) from the bottom of the string. The nice thing about a P-Bass pickup is that you can pretty much set this height for each of the four strings...

    Anway, good luck
