I have a ART Tube outboard pre amp . I wanna hook it up like this -

Bass--> line in of Art Tube pre amp , ART pre amp line out into Input channel of my bass head. I was told this will give me a warmer, fatter sound so I wanna try it...My drummer was saying not to run the pre amp this way, and that the pre amp should only be used for microphones...any idea??

  2. The preamp will bring your instrument-level signal up to line level. Your amp wants an instrument level signal to its input. It would be safe to run it into your amp's EFFECTS RETURN, but this would bypass your amp's preamp section. Be very careful if you go into the instrument input of your amp. Keep the output volume of the preamp VERY low if you try it. If your amp has an input marked "active" or an active/passive input pad switch, use the active. And still be very careful if you try it.
