Here's the "Most Stolen Cars" list from last year. They also tend to have interchangeable parts among model years, creating a profitable market for replacement parts, CCC said. In addition to CCC, the National Information Crime Bureau (NICB) and the Highway Data Loss Institute also track the who, what, where and when of stolen cars. "Stolen-car lists catch the public interest," admits Chris E. McGoey, owner of McGoey Security Consulting in Los Angeles. "Some people will avoid buying a car on these lists, but that's a false sense of security."
Assuming these are raw numbers of cars stolen, rather than a statistical likelihood that a car of this description will be stolen, then Camry and Accord owners can probably relax, and people driving previous-generation Civic Sis ought to go outside right this second and make sure their car is still there...
Mine's # 13. I put it in the garage every night though. I thought 4x4 trucks were high on this kind of list, but don't see any.
vtec B16 and B18 honda engines are like solid gold right now. demand is ridiculous. but my car isn't on the list. not many people interested in the lowly 2.4 SOHC KA24E though though lots of 240sx's are recieving SR20DETs, CA18DETs, RB20DETs and RB25DETs, so thefts of ones that are obviously 'hooked up' has gone up because the demand for SR's and skyline engines is getting to be pretty big too.
Mine isn't either. Noone's ever tried to steal my friend's Honda, but it's been broken into about 8 times. He no loger lock the doors on it.
No one goes after older cars. My 76 Celica is safe, or at least until the paint job and restoration is done. Rock on Eric
My bus pass has never been stolen, although the washing machine has done a number on it a few times when I forgot to take it out of my pocket.
My car is #17 but that's ok cause it gets good gas mileage (a little bit over 30 miles to a gallon) and I love driving a stick shift. Of course I'm about to get a new car, kind of. I'm getting basically the car I have now but in a 4 door and automatic (bleh) so that I can haul around my 4x10 without as much trouble~Josh
